THE NATIONAL University Lady Bulldogs clinched the last twice-to-beat incentive at the expense of the UST Tiger Softbelles, 1-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.

Following a scoreless deadlock that reached the sixth inning, NU’s Chad Dulalian came through in the seventh inning with a run off a Grace Blanco run-batted-in flyball at the center field.

With still an out remaining, the Softbelles could have stolen the game with Mallows Garde and CJ Roa at the first and second bases, respectively. But Garde was tagged by NU catcher Collen Alilin as she slid to the home plate.

“Siguro nahirapan mag-adjust ang bawat isa. Na-off ‘yung condition ng bawat isa kaya hindi lumabas ‘yung palo,” UST team captain Rachel Ann Secor told the Varsitarian.

UST had a chance of going up the scoreboard with Roa at the third base but a double play against her and teammate Jessie Belaño prevented a potential Softbelle run.

The Softbelles, who remained at third place behind 6-5 record, will wrap up the elimination round against the De La Salle University on March 6, Monday, at the same venue.
