THE UST Tiger Softbelles are back in the UAAP finals for the second straight year after erasing the twice-to-beat advantage of the National University Lady Bulldogs, 2-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.

It was a sweet revenge for UST as the Softbelles previously lost twice against the Lady Bulldogs in the elimination round.

Former Most Homeruns awardee CJ Roa went for the early kill by nailing a two-run-batted-in-double at the bottom of the first inning which sent Softbelles Hannah de la Torre and Mallows Garde back to the home plate, 2-0.

UST ace pitcher Ann Antolihao, who is still playing with a bum shoulder, kept NU’s offense at bay by registering six strikeouts including the last two possessions.

“It’s payback time,” coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.

The Softbelles will face six-time defending champions Adamson University Lady Falcons.

Last March, the Softbelles ended Adamson’s 73-game winning streak, the longest winning streak in Philippine sports, but faltered in Game 3 of the finals.

The best-of-three finals series will start on March 21, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
