THE ADAMSON University Lady Falcons are a win away from their seventh straight UAAP softball title after a 9-2 win over the UST Tiger Softbelles this Season 79 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Tuesday.

After trailing 0-2, the Lady Falcons drilled in five runs at the bottom of the first inning to pull away. UST’s defense failed to hold up with ace pitcher Ann Antolihao being taken out of the game in the fifth.

Rizel Calumbres, Lorna Adorable, Angelie Ursabia, Florabelle Pabiana and Lamata all completed the diamond in the first.

Adamson scored three more runs in the final four innings as the mercy rule was applied as early as the sixth.

The Softbelles may have lost more than Game 1 after Antolihao came down with an apparent left knee injury she suffered at the bottom of the fifth.

Antolihao, who looked uneasy beginning the second inning, buckled her left knee in her very first pitch of the fifth. She was taken to the UST Hospital for further evaluation.

After Softbelles Lealyn Guevarra and Celestine Palma scored back-to-back runs in the first, UST remained scoreless in the remaining innings.

“Lahat ng kaya kong ibigay sa team, ibibigay ko. ‘Yan na lang maibibigay ko sa kanila,” said graduating UST team captain and backup pitcher Mallows Garde.

Game 2 of the softball finals will be on Mar. 24, Friday, at the same venue.
