THE UST Tiger Softbelles fell short against the National University Lady Bulldogs, 2-3, in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.

Down 2-3, UST had a chance to score at the top of the seventh inning after loading the first and second bases, but Shiela Perales’ hit was called out.

In the fifth inning, Tin Palma nailed a left-field run-batted-in (RBI) triple as Hannah de la Torre reached home plate for UST’s first run before CJ Roa’s center-field hit sent Palma to home as well.

A Nicole Ordoyo left-field-two-RBI single resulted in Leila Tarroza and Mia Macapagal’s conversions for a 3-0 NU lead.

“[Kulang tayo sa] batting, kulang tayo sa opensa. Walang backup si [Ann] Antolihao [tapos] puro tayo errors,” Tiger Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.

Lady Bulldog Rose Lumhud struck a center RBI single in the fourth inning that sent Sheila Pilo to home plate, 1-0.

UST will try to get back to the winning column against De La Salle University on Feb. 15, Thursday, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
