THE UST Tiger Softbelles overwhelmed the De La Salle University Lady Archers, 7-0, for their fourth win in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.

The Softbelles ended the first round at second place with a 4-2 win-loss card behind defending champion Adamson University.

The mercy rule took effect on La Salle after Marymyl Tanio hit a run-batted-in (RBI) single that sent Lealyn Guevarra to home plate at the top of the sixth inning.

UST ace pitcher Ann Antolihao then struck out Nicole Fajardo, Alleena Conception and Raisa Joseph for the win.

“Naka-hit na ‘yung first two batters ko. Kapag nagkaroon na sila ng kumpyansa sa next games namin, tuluy-tuloy na ‘yan,” UST head coach Sandy Barredo said.

Shiela Perales and CJ Roa scored two more runs for UST at the top of the fourth inning courtesy of a two RBI-double from Guevarra.

Hannah dela Torre hit a two-RBI single at the top of the third inning and sent Guevarra and Ruzle Jumuad home for a 4-0 UST lead.

Ricky Mae Latican scored the first run for UST coming off an RBI-single from Belaño.

Antolihao once again anchored UST’s defense and delivered eight strikeouts.

The schedule for the second round is yet to be announced.
