RICKY Mae Latican made a center-right field hit late in the seventh inning as the UST Tiger Softbelles tripped the De La Salle University, 1-0, in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.

Latican’s hit sent Angel Tonquin back to home plate for the win.

Bianca Hernandez sparked UST’s batting after loading the second base off a center-field hit.

“Actually, si Bianca may tiwala ako [sa kanya.] May palo ‘yan, may one-time hit ‘yan kung tatama. At least, nag-aattempt [sila] mag-swing. Kasi kung puro strikeout lang ng strikeout, walang mangyayari,” Tiger Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo said in an interview.

La Salle managed to load all bases at the top of the sixth inning but a double play was called after a Jamica Arribas center-right field fly out.

Ace pitcher Ann Antolihao, who tallied nine strikeouts, fanned Roselle Dela Torre to exhaust La Salle’s batting chances.

The Tiger Softbelles improved to a 7-2 win-loss record for second place in the standings behind the undefeated Adamson University.

UST will look to hand Adamson its first loss on Feb. 25, Monday, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
