UST HS evens series vs NU

Nov. 27 2016, 8:07 p.m. – THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses forced a winner-take-all Game 3 after a hard-fought win over the Nazareth School of National University Lady Bullpups, in the finals of the UAAP girls’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym Sunday.

Coming off a three-game losing streak to the Lady Bullpups, UST took advantage of NU’s 41 unforced errors in its 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13 victory.

UST tallied 33 kills and 11 aces to keep its championship hopes alive.

The Junior Tigresses, who led 18-13 in the fourth set, doubled their advantage as NU committed five straight unforced errors, 23-13.

UST rookie Baby Love Barbon fired an ace to secure the victory.

“Heto na nga ‘yung gusto nating mangyari ang matalo ang NU. Sabi nga, better late than never. Maganda rin na relax sila,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said in an interview.

Team captain Eya Laure paced UST with 18 points while Barbon and Genesa Eslapor combined for 20 markers.

The Junior Tigresses were on their way to the sweep, 16-13, before NU ignited a 11-3 run. UST committed 13 unforced errors in the third set alone.

NU team captain Faith Nisperos, who was named Most Valuable Player, was limited to just eight points.

Laure was named Best Opposite Spiker. Barbon and Tigress Bernadett Pepito received Second Best Open Spiker and Best Libero honors, respectively.

Game 3 of the finals is set on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the same venue.
