THE UST Lady Booters’ amazing run came to a screeching halt Sunday as the undefeated De La Salle University Lady Archers eked out a 3-1 win to bag the UAAP championship at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Following a scoreless first half, the Lady Archers banked on conversions from Kyrhen Dimaandal, Sara Castaneda and Inna Palacios in the 56th, 88th and 93rd minutes, respectively, to complete their season sweep.

Hazel Lustan was the only Lady Booter to find the back of the net after outrunning La Salle defenders and drilling the goal from the six-yard box in the 73rd minute.

Despite the loss, UST made up for its poor showing in the last two seasons.

“Surprisingly, ang ganda ng performance ng mga bata kahit na maliliit kami. Meron kaming ginawa na alam kong binigyan namin ng magandang laban ang La Salle,” said UST coach Aging Rubio.

UST co-captains Charisa Lemoran and Aira Ilan were named in the Mythical Striker and Mythical Defender teams, respectively, while Lady Booter Hazel Lustan was included in the Mythical Midfielder squad. Mary Joy Indac bagged the Rookie of the Year award.

“[For next season] kailangan ko ng exposure. Ang bata pa ng mga players, hindi pa polished ang skills nila and marami pa silang kailangan matutunan,” Rubio added.

Only Ilan will graduate from the Lady Booters while La Salle will lose a bunch of its championship core next season.
