THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses kept their umblemished record after a hard-earned 25-19, 25-12, 25-23 win over the University of the East Junior Lady Warriors in the UAAP Season 80 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

UST inched a game closer to an outright finals berth with only defending champion National University hindering an elimination round sweep.

With UST at match point, 24-21, UE tried to extend the set with two quick points before Eya Laure iced the game with an off-the-block hit.

The Junior Tigresses turned an early deficit in the second set into a lopsided affair with a 22-6 outburst, with Imee Hernandez and Genesa Eslapor exploiting the UE defense, 25-12.

With UE clinging, 20-16, Hernandez scored three of UST’s next five points, including a drop to take the first set.

“Maganda ‘yung transition ng UE ‘nung bandang gitna ng laro tapos nag-struggle tayo sa stability ng spikers. Pero eventually after ‘nung timeout nagdire-diretso na,” UST coach Emilio Reyes Jr. said.

Standing at a perfect 11-0, Reyes said the team’s consistency will be the key to end the eliminations on a high note.

The Junior Tigresses will face NU in a potential finals match-up on Nov. 12, Sunday.
