THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers entered the semifinals of the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament after toppling the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, 25-13, 25-23, 25-17, at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

The Junior Tiger Spikers remained at third place with a 9-3 win-loss card.

UST finished off La Salle in the third set with a quick 5-2 burst, capped by Rey de Vega’s off-the-block hit.

The Tiger Spikers overcame a late 21-23 deficit with four unanswered points, punctuated by Jaron Requinton’s crosscourt kill to take a commanding 2-0 set lead.

UST broke a 2-all deadlock in the opening salvo with a 20-7 bomb to surge ahead, 22-9, before team captain Lorenz Señoron’s drop ended the set, 25-13.

UST assistant coach Rommel Abella said the team’s 31 errors made it harder to fend off the Junior Archers.

“”Yung (errors) pa rin ang ina-address namin kasi sobrang dami talaga. Going into the Final Four, kailangan ma-limit na natin ang error kasi iba na ang labanan doon,” Abella said.

The Junior Tiger Spikers pounded 40 attack points and eight aces to make up for its error-plagued game.

Requinton spearheaded UST with 15 points while de Vega chipped in 12 markers.

Shem Lois Laureta had eight points for La Salle.

Up next for UST are the Adamson University Baby Falcons on Nov. 12, Sunday, 2 p.m., at the same venue.
