THE PETRON Blaze Spikers blasted the Victoria Sports-UST Golden Tigresses, 25-16, 25-14, 25-14, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Arena in San Juan Thursday.

Backed for former and current UST players, Petron improved to second place with a 4-1 card and gave UST its second straight loss.

UST had a 2-0 lead early in the third set when Petron ignited a 17-5 explosion to erect a 10-point cushion before former Golden Tigress Riri Meneses’ quick attack finished the game.

The Blaze Spikers detonated a 17-7 bomb in the second set, topped by an off-the-block hit from Mela Tunay to push UST down a 0-2 hole.

“‘Yung Petron, mga high-caliber players so talagang na-intimidate ang mga bata. Lalo na kalaban nila, dating taga-UST kaya masyado nila na-respeto mga players,” UST head coach Paul Jan Dolorias said.

Petron asserted its dominance early with a 16-2 blitz to establish a 19-8 lead. Former Tigress Rhea Dimaculangan’s drop gave Petron the first blood in the match.

Former Golden Tigress Aiza Maizo-Pontillas chalked up 10 points for Petron while Remy Palma had eight markers.

Dimdim Pacres scored 10 points for UST.

The Tigresses will face the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors on Nov. 14, Tuesday, 4:15 p.m., at the same venue.
