FORMER Tigershark Sam Alcos bagged back-to-back silver medals in the recently concluded Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships at the Assumption University Swimming Complex last April.

Alcos notched second-place finishes in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke and men’s 100-meter breaststroke categories, both behind Thai tanker Radomyot Matjiur.

The Communication Arts alumus said he did not expect to win medals as he was absent in the swimming scene for almost a half decade.

“I never really expected to win. To have that opportunity to compete again, sobrang fulfilling ng pakiramdam. Feel ko ulit ‘yung UAAP glory days,” Alcos told the Varsitarian in an e-mail interview.

Alcos, now Ateneo de Davao grade school swim team head coach, also said joining another competition was possible.

“Winning last month brought back the dreams I thought I’d given up on,” he said.

The Thailand Swimming Championships was Alcos’ first tourney after ending his stint in UAAP Season 74 in 2011.

The 25-year-old was a part of UST’s men’s champion team in Season 71.
