UST swimmers bag bronze medals

THE UST Female Tigersharks reaped two bronze medals in Day 2 of the UAAP Season 80 swimming tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Friday.

The Male Tigersharks missed the podium and remained at fourth place with 41 points. The Female Tigersharks improved to third with 57 points.

Mary Margaret Sanchez, Anika Relliquete, Dominique Rivera and Isabelle Gubat nabbed bronze in the 4×100 freestyle relay after clocking 4:28.38 behind Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines, who placed first and second, respectively.

Angelic Saaverda also got bronze after clinching 1:09.10 in the women’s 100-meter butterfly event.

In the juniors’ division, the Junior Tigersharks collected two golds, two silvers and one bronze while the Junior Female Tigersharks grabbed two golds and one bronze.

Bryan Camacho, Jiwh Santos, Angelo dela Cruz and Terrence Buico set a new UAAP record with a 3:52.79 output in the boys’ 4×100 freestyle relay to take the gold

Elaine Esmile, Sofia Canlas, Millevon Macatangay and Roma Lalimo’s also scored a new record with 4:16.66 in the girls’ 4×100 freestyle relay.

Cammile Buico struck gold and topped her previous record in the girls’ 100-meter butterfly tournament after registering 1:04.65.

UAAP swimming resumes today, Oct. 14, at the same venue.
