The UST table tennis teams reaped twin victories in the second round of the UAAP Season 80 table tennis tournament at the UP College of Human Kinetics gym in Diliman Sunday.

The Tiger Paddlers dominated the University of the East and rival squad De La Salle University with 3-1 verdicts.

Up 2-1, Tiger Paddler Chebuel Andaloc hammered Green Paddler Edward So, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8, to seal the win.

In women’s play the Lady Paddlers whipped UE, 3-0, and the University of the Philippines, 3-1.

UST had the upper hand, 2-1, before Danica Alburo nosed out UP’s Celine Ching in a nail-biting 8-11, 11-5, 16-14, 10-12, 11-6, victory.

“Anticipated ko na [‘yung panalo]. Actually, kaya natin sana i-sweep ‘yung UP kaya lang ‘yung isa kong player medyo wala sa mood,” Lady Paddlers head coach Lori Wadjad said.

The men’s squad began its second-round campaign with a win Saturday over National University, 3-1, while the Lady Paddlers fell short against Far Eastern University, 2-3.

The Tiger Paddlers took firm grip of the top spot with a 9-1 win-loss slate while their female counterparts secured second seed, 8-2.

The men’s team will face UP and FEU while the Lady Paddlers will clash against the Ateneo de Manila University and Adamson University on Oct. 4, Wednesday, at the same venue.
