THE UST table tennis teams notched three victories en route to the playoffs in the UAAP Season 80 table tennis tournament at the UP College of Human Kinetics gym in Diliman last Oct.7.

The Tiger Paddlers ended the eliminations on top with a 13-1 win-loss record while their female counterparts held an 11-3 card for second place.

UST handily defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 3-0, before escaping the Adamson University in a hard-earned 3-2 verdict.

With the game tied at 2-2, Shen Tunay’s late-game heroics swept Falcon Wilfredo Enal, 3-0, for the win.

“Okay ‘yung performance ng team [kaya] sana magtuloy-tuloy na ‘to hanggang championship,” UST men’s team head coach Jackson Que told the Varsitarian.

In women’s play, the Lady Paddlers clobbered the National University, 3-1, but faltered against defending champion De La Salle University, 2-3.

Lady Paddlers head coach Lori Wadjad said her players needed to work on their consistency during games.

“Fluctuating sila, minsan okay sa isang player, minsan naman hindi,” Wadjad said.

The playoffs will begin on Oct. 8 at the same venue. with reports from Rhenwil James G. Santos
