Oct. 21 2016, 4:27 p.m. – THE UST Tiger Jins yielded their UAAP poomsae crown to De La Salle University at the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle gym Friday.

La Salle snatched the title after a 2-2-1 gold-silver-bronze medal haul while UST had two gold and two bronze medals.

Men’s team captain Rodolfo Reyes Jr. recorded 8.58 points to overcome University of the Philippine’s Dustin Mella for the Tiger Jins’ only gold medal in the individual division.

In the team category, Reyes, Jerel Dalida, and Adrian Ang scored 8.64 points for the top spot.

“They performed really well today. ‘Yung mga in-expect kong manalo, naiuwi naman nila ‘yung gold,” UST head coach Rani Ortega said.

“Kalat kasi ‘yung mga national team [players], it is anybody’s game sa lahat ng event.”

Dalida and women’s team captain Jocel Lyn Ninobla settled for bronze in the mixed pairs category with 8.53 points, while La Salle’s Raphael Mella and Angelica Gaw took home the gold with 8.66 points.

The Ninobla, Jhoanna Razon and Cyrinne Abenir finished with bronze medals. But Razon failed to reach the podium in the individual women’s division and slid to fourth.

“Next year we will try again. Ganoon naman, sometimes we get it and sometimes we don’t,” Ortega said.

“Syempre lahat ng teams umaangat and nakita natin ‘yung improvement so we’ll start shaping up again for next season.”

UST is still the winningest team in the UAAP poomsae since the league adopted the sport in 2013, bagging two of the four championships.
