UST’S tennis squads dropped their respective UAAP matches against the University of the East and the National University at the Rizal Memorial Stadium yesterday.

The Male Tennisters surrendered to UE, 2-3, while the Female Tennisters were swept by defending champions NU.

With UE and UST on 2-2 a deadlock, fatigue and cramps got the better of Male Tennister Nico Lanzado as he dropped the potential winning match against Josshua Kinaadman, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.

UE took the first two individual matches as UST’s James Sumaylo and Dave Mosqueda lost to Rodolfo Barquin Jr. And AJ Lim, respectively.

The Male Tennisters’ doubles teams then retaliated with back-to-back wins from the Joel Cabusas-Bernlou Bering duo and Clarence Cabahug-En En Lopez tandem who swept their respective matches.

“I’m happy sa result ng nilaro nila ngayon, kasi for me they played like champions na,” Male Tennisters head coach Alexander Diego said, “Pero babawi kami, at least kahit talo kami napakita nila kung gaano nila kagusto manalo.”

In women’s play, NU’s Clarice Patrimonio made quick work of Kendies Malinis in the first singles’ match, 6-1, 6-1, before reigning Most Valuable Player Christine Patrimonio squeaked past Erika Manduriao, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Jzash Canja sealed the victory for NU, which is still unscathed in three outings, with a 6-2, 6-3 thrashing of Precian Rivera.

Female Tennisters’ Ebeb Caorte-Shy Gitalan pair and April Santos-Ingrid Gonzales dyad also both lost their doubles games via sweep.

The Male Tennisters (1-1) will go up against the De La Salle University while the Lady Tennisters (2-1) will face the Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the same venue.
