THE UST Lady Tennisters pulled off a 3-2 win against the De La Salle University in the second round of the UAAP Season 79 women’s lawn tennis at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
UST’s doubles teams delivered the victory even it won only one of its singles matches.
April Santos and Eb-Eb Caorte eked out a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win over La Salle’s Princess Castillo and Jed Aquino.
Precian Rivera defeated Jenni Dizon, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, for UST’s lone singles win.
The pair of Ingrid Gonzales and Shymae Gitalan gave the Lady Tennisters their first win of the day after sweeping Kyalla Orillosa and Kianna Gacias, 6-1, 6-1.
UST’s Kendies Malinis and Erika Manduriao both dropped their singles’ matches against Chang Atangan and Rachelle de Guzman, respectively.
“Habang papalapit [nang] matapos ang second round ginagawa namin lahat para sure na makapasok sa finals … pero tibay lang ng loob ‘yung ginawa ng mga players at nasa isip talaga namin na every point counts,” Female Tennisters team captain Lenelyn Milo said in an online interview with the Varsitarian.
The Male Tennisters’ match-up against the Ateneo de Manila University was postponed due to rain.
Up next for the Lady Tennisters (4-1) is the University of the Philippines at 12 noon while the Male Tennisters will face La Salle at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the same venue.
