THE FINALS-bound UST Male Tennisters edged out the National University to cap off the elimination round of the UAAP Season 79 lawn tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.
Dave Mosqueda and Nico Lanzado provided UST with twin wins against NU’s Jeric Accion and Arc Dolorito, respectively.
NU evened the game behind Macky Latorre’s 6-4, 6-2 sweep of James Sumaylo and Jigo Pena and Justine Prulla’s 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over
UST duo Joel Cabusas and Bernlou Bering.
UST secured the victory after Clarence Cabahug and En-En Lopez made quick work of the Bulldogs’ tandem of Allen Manlangit and AJ Alejandre, 6-4, 6-4.
“The team is ready for the finals. It was a close game but the players were determined to win,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.
The Male Tennisters (7-3)will face the top-seeded University of the East on March 18, Saturday, 8 a.m., at the same venue. UST lost both of its games against UE in the elimination round.
“We talked about our lineup strategies and the players’ physical and mental conditioning to cover up our errors during the eliminations,” Diego added.
