THE UST Male Tennisters foiled the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 3-2, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s lawn tennis tournament opener at the Rizal Memorial Complex Saturday.
With the game tied at two matches apiece, the UST duo of Bernlou Bering and Warren Lagahit nailed a winning match against Fighting Maroons duo Auden Paduganan and Vincent Alanis, 6-3, 7-5.
“[We made] a lot of adjustments since this is our first game for this season but I’m happy with the win,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.
Down 1-2, UST evened the game after Mart Cabahug and En-En Lopez scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over UP’s Elijah Arevalo and Mimo Tomacruz.
Dave Mosqueda gave UST its first win of the day against Joel Atienza, 7-6, 6-2, in the singles match.
The Male Tennisters will face the De La Salle University on Feb. 4, Sunday, at the same venue.
