THE UST Male Tennisters succumbed to defending champion University of the East Red Warriors, 0-5, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Complex Saturday.

Red Warrior Rodolfo Barquin dominated UST’s Joel Librodo, 6-0, 6-0, in the first singles match.

The Male Tennisters crumbled further after Red Warrior Josshua Kinaadman smothered Dominique Lanzado, 7-5, 6-0. Lanzado injured his right shoulder bone in the second set.

The tandem of RJ Saga and Rogelio Estano sealed the win for the Red Warriors with a hard-fought victory over Mart Cabahug and En-En Lopez, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

“Ang pinakaproblema namin ay may injuries ang mga bata. For me, no more excuses and we need to work hard for the next game,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.

The Male Tennisters fell to third place in the standings with a 2-1 win-loss record, behind De La Salle University and UE.

Warren Lagahit will sit out the next few games due to a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) sprain in the knee.

UST will next face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Feb. 11, Sunday, at the same venue.
