THE FINAL Four-bound UST Tiger Spikers absorbed a 23-25, 18-25, 16-25 beating from the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 79 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.

FEU, which had 42 attack points, dropped an 11-3 bomb in the third set to down the Tiger Spikers via sweep.

Richard Solis and Ronchette Villegas scored 10 points apiece to pace the Tawaraws who will also face UST in a stepladder semifinals on Saturday, April 22, at a venue yet to be announced.

“I think we have 11 sessions before we face FEU. Magre-request ako na i-quarantine sila Wednesday night on 19 para mabantayan ko ang condition (nila),” UST head coach Odjie Mamon said.

Just as UST was catching up in the second set, 16-20, FEU scored five of the last seven points to gain a 2-0 set advantage.

The Tiger Spikers were down 24-10 in the maiden set but had a chance for a comeback following two consecutive FEU errors. However, JP Bugaoan’s block allowed the Tamaraws to draw first blood.

Jerico Jose led UST seven points while Manuel Medina added five.
