THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses won the battle for bronze after sweeping the Escuela de Sophia of Caloocan Inc., 25-13, 25-20, in the 15th Shakey’s Girls’ V-League National Capital Region Leg at the FEU Diliman Gym Friday.
The Tigresses earlier lost to UAAP champions Nazareth School of National University Lady Bullpups, 23-25, 17-25, in the semifinals.
“At least good finish kami although hindi namin nakuha ‘yung for finals (na spot). (Sa battle for third), tayo na ‘yung llamado so kaya na naming kontrolin ‘yung laro,” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.
Down seven in the second set, UST went on a 13-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. Janna Torres sealed the win with a quick hit.
Best Opposite Attacker Eya Laure led UST with eight points while Maji Mangulabnan added seven markers.
With the UAAP season starting soon, Reyes said the players would have to double their efforts if they want to dethrone NU.
“Kung makikita namin ‘yung adjustment, malaki ang kailangan naming gawin. ‘Yung galaw kailangang i-perfect para manalo. Ganun kahirap kasi ang labanan na rito David and Goliath kung sa height pa lang,” he said.
