THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses fended off a gritty De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers, 25-23, 27-25, 25-23, in their UAAP volleyball encounter at the Arena in San Juan Monday.

Down by seven in the third frame, UST went on a 15-6 blitz capped by Eya Laure’s down-the-line kill to seal the Junior Golden Tigresses’ second-straight win.

With the Junior Tigresses at set point, 24-22, the Lady Spikers scared with three-straight markers but Imee Hernandez killed all hopes of a comeback with a block to take the second set.

“Wala pa naman tayo ‘dun sa 80 percent ng ginagalaw namin. Although kontrolado naman ang laro, ang dami nating error,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said.

Down 19-21 in the opening frame, UST uncorked a 6-2 run sealed by Laure’s down-the-line hit for a 1-0 set lead.

Laure dropped a game-high 16 points while Imee Hernandez and Gayle Pascual both had 8 markers.

Angel Canino paced La Salle with nine.

Up next for the Tigresses are the FEU-Diliman Baby Lady Tamawars on Sept. 23, Saturday, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
