THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers handily defeated the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Spikers, 25-13, 25-10, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

Leading 23-20 in the third set, UST capitalized on La Salle’s service error before Efraem Dimaculangan fired a quick hit to seal the game.

The Junior Tiger Spikers ignited a 14-3 run in the middle of the second frame capped by a La Salle error to grab a 2-0 set lead, 25-10.

UST easily took the first salvo after uncorking an 8-1 blitz to increase the lead by as much as nine, 19-10. A block by team captain Lorenz Señoron iced the set.

“It’s a good bounce back game kasi talo tayo sa first game. Kampante kami ‘nung first parts ng game at ‘nung third set medyo nag-relax tayo kaya ayun ‘yung kailangan pang i-work out,” assistant coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.

The Tiger Spikers capitalized on Zobel’s 23 errors and faulty floor defense.

Jaron Requinton spearheaded UST with 11 points while Rey De Vega and team captain Señoron combined for 19 points.

Andrei Espejo and John Exequiel Lituania led Zobel with five and three points, respectively.

UST now holds a 1-1 win-loss slate.

Up next for the Junior Tiger Spikers will be against University of the East on Sunday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m. at the same venue.
