Cherry Rondina powered UST with 22 points and four aces as the Golden Tigresses took down the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-9, 31-29, 25-19 in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

Tin Francisco’s block capped UST’s 5-2 swing in the third set to give the Tigresses their second win in four games.

With the second set tied at 29-all, UST banked on Rondina’s back-to-back kills for a 2-0 advantage.

The Tigresses opened the game with a 17-3 bomb on Adamson, with Carla Sandoval sealing the set with a service ace, 25-9.

“Natuto kami doon sa dalawang talo namin. Everytime na natatalo kami, ang dami naming tapon sa service pero buti na lang, naka-recover kami,” UST headcoach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said.

The Tigresses pounded 12 service aces while the Lady Falcons had three.

UST played without Fil-Italian rookie Milena Alessandrini due to an inflamed shoulder but is expected to return to action in two to three weeks.

Dimdim Pacres trailed Rondina in scoring with 13 markers.

Adamson’s Jema Galanza scored 10 points.

UST is on a four-way tie with Adamson, Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University for third place in the standings with a 2-2 win-loss record.

The Tigresses will look to upset the undefeated National University Lady Bulldogs’ streak on Feb. 25, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
