Artlets, Commerce moving temporarily to other buildings after fire

July 8, 2015, 5:50 a.m.; updated 7:50 a.m. - SPECIAL term classes at the Faculty of Arts and Letters and the College of Commerce and Business Administration resume tomorrow, four days after the fire that broke out at St. Raymund de Peñafort Building.

Classes were supposed to resume today but Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada suspended classes at all levels because of bad weather.

Commerce will hold classes at the Main Building and Artlets at the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building, while clean-up operations at St. Raymund's are being conducted.

UST to offer undergrad course in Creative Writing

June 5, 2015, 9:24 p.m. - UST'S Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) is set to offer a bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Creative Writing starting 2018.

"There is obviously an interest [in creative writing] on the part of the students," UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (CCWLS) Director Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo said in an interview. "Since a program is not yet offered by [UST], interested students may only improve their skills through workshops."

Eng’g reclaims Pautakan crown

THE FACULTY of Engineering emerged as the Pautakan 2015 champion after besting 13 other teams in the intercollegiate quiz contest last April 13 at the Medicine Auditorium.

The Engineering team finished with 200 points, defeating perennial podium finisher Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets). Artlets led early in the competition but fell short and ended up with 165 points, good for a runner-up finish.

Artlets council seeks to regain trust after loss of funds

Feb. 11, 2015, 12:13 a.m. - THE PRESIDENT of the Arts and Letters Student Council (ABSC) said the council was doing everything to regain the trust of the students after the loss of P50,000 in funds last October.

“Gagawin namin ang lahat ng aming makakaya para maibalik ang tiwala niyo, pero kung hindi niyo po susubukan na magtiwala ulit, walang kwenta 'yung pagsubok namin na ibalik 'ulit 'yung tiwala,” ABSC President Marie Jann Lazo said in a dialogue titled “Speak Up: Face-to-Face with the Student Council and the Administration” held Tuesday.

Artlets Student Council loses P50K in alleged theft

Nov. 23, 2014, 11:49 a.m. - THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters Student Council (ABSC) yesterday said money was stolen from its office last Oct. 23, confirming an earlier statement released by the Board of Majors (BOM).

The ABSC, in its own statement, said it lost about P50,000 in cash, which was supposed to finance activities like the Athena Cup, NGO fair, and the general staff assembly.

Arts and Letters gets PACUCOA level 4 accreditation

FOUR PROGRAMS of the Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) have been granted the coveted Level 4 accreditation status, the highest rank that can be obtained by an educational institution from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).

Economics, Legal Management, Literature, and Philosophy obtained the highest accreditation level after a two-day “survey visit” by PACUCOA accreditors last August 18 and 19.
