May 21, 2015, 5:00 p.m. - THE FACULTY of Engineering has been granted Level III re-accredited status by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU), after passing rigorous evaluation.

All six programs of the faculty—civil, chemical, mechanical, industrial, electrical, and electronics engineering—passed the re-accreditation process and will have Level III status until November 2018, according to a May 18 letter from PAASCU addressed to Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P.

THE FACULTY of Engineering emerged as the Pautakan 2015 champion after besting 13 other teams in the intercollegiate quiz contest last April 13 at the Medicine Auditorium.

The Engineering team finished with 200 points, defeating perennial podium finisher Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets). Artlets led early in the competition but fell short and ended up with 165 points, good for a runner-up finish.

April 16, 2015, 3:02 p.m. - STUDENTS at the newly established Institute of Information and Computing Sciences (IICS) have rejected a proposed constitution that would have established a separate student council for the newly established academic unit.

A resolution promulgated last April 7 by the Engineering Commission on Elections stated that no article in the proposed IICS constitution gained approval from the students during a plebiscite.

“It [was] resolved by the Engineering Comelec that the drafted IICS constitution be rejected. Hence, the constitution needs to be revised,” the resolution read.

March 1, 2015, 1:54 p.m. - UST CHEMICAL Engineering students won second place in the National Undergraduate Research Contest of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) National Convention last Feb. 18 to 21 in Puerto Princesa.

Fifth-year students Bob Canstrence, Marianne Fuentes, and Cham Faustino gained recognition for their study titled “Physical Characterization of Polymerized Whey Protein-stabilized Virgin Coconut Oil-in-water Emulsion," which deals with emulsification (breaking down of fats) in commercial and alternative coco butter using whey protein.

Feb. 10, 2015, 9:06 p.m. - TWO THOMASIANS landed in the top 10 of the November 2014 Industrial Engineering certification exam, results from the Industrial Engineering Certification Board (IECB) showed.

Leading the new batch of certified Thomasian industrial engineers are seventh-placer Bernard Lorenz Refuerzo, who posted a score of 78.73 percent, and ninth-placer Vincent Alejandrino with a score of 78.18 percent.

UST recorded an 81.25-percent passing rate with a total of 39 passers.

Dec. 12, 2014, 10:07 a.m. - THE UNIVERSITY'S passing rate in the recent licensure examination for civil engineers declined to 87.76 percent from last year's 91.79 percent, but one Thomasian finished third place.

UST placed fourth overall with 215 passing out of 245 Thomasian examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. Last year, 179 out of 195 examinees passed, placing UST second on the list of top-performing schools.

THE UNIVERSITY improved its passing rate in the November 2014 licensure examinations for chemical engineers, with three Thomasians entering the top 10.

UST recorded a 69.12-percent passing rate or 94 passers out of 136 examinees, higher than last year’s 58.97-percent passing rate or 69 passers out of 117 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.

Second-placer Joseph John Liwanagan led the new batch of Thomasian chemical engineers with a score of 83.40 percent. Other Thomasians who made it to the list were Francis Jessy Liggayu at seventh place (82.80 percent) and William Macasero Jr. at ninth place (82.50 percent).

Oct. 10, 2014, 8:39 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY posted a higher passing rate in the licensure examination for mechanical engineers, with one Thomasian entering the top 10.

UST placed fifth on the list of top-performing schools after posting a passing rate of 92.03 percent, or 127 passers out of 138 examinees. This was higher than last year’s 75.21-percent or 91 passers out of 121 examinees, data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.

Last year, the University failed to earn a spot on the list of top-performing schools.

Oct. 3, 2014, 6:05 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY recorded a slightly lower passing rate in the September electronics engineers licensure examinations, while one Thomasian made it to the top 10.

UST’s passing rate went down to 54.92 percent (106 passers out of 193 examinees) from last year’s 55.86 percent (81 passers out of 145 examinees), results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.

Leading the new batch of Thomasian electronics engineers was second-placer Harold Alexis Lao, who scored 90.60 percent.
