Parents to file petition for K to 12 suspension

April 12, 2015, 9:22 a.m. – A GROUP of parents is set to go to court to seek the suspension of the new basic education program, citing unclear provisions, lack of government preparation, and lack of consultation.

Members of the Parents Advocacy for Children’s Education (PACE) called on other parents to join the effort to suspend the full implementation of the K to 12 program in a conference held at the Ambassador Hotel Saturday.

“We (parents) should unite para ma-suspend itong K to 12. If we really are considered as stakeholders, dapat konsultahin tayo dahil tayo ang nagpapadala ng estudyante sa mga eskwelehan,” PACE Founding Chairman and UST High School Parents Association board member Revenendo Vargas said during the conference titled “K to 12: Impact 2016.”

School workers call for K to 12 suspension

March 14, 2015, 6:01 p.m. - TEACHING and non-teaching personnel of several higher educational institutions (HEIs) filed a petition at the Supreme Court (SC) on March 12 to call for the suspension of the full implementation of the K to 12 program in 2016.

A coalition of HEI employees named “Suspend K to 12 Alliance” marched from Plaza Salamanca in Kalaw, Manila to the SC to show their opposition to K to 12, which they described as an “unprepared and ill-designed education program.”

UST to open classes in August starting next academic year

Jan. 23, 2015, 5:19 p.m. - STARTING next academic year, classes in UST will open in the first week of August, according to a memorandum by Secretary General Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P. dated Jan. 23.

The University will be implementing the change in the school calendar beginning Academic Year 2015-2016 to coincide with the full implementation of the new K to 12 basic education curriculum.

Based on the new collegiate calendar, the Mass of the Holy Spirit or Misa de Apertura will be held on Aug. 3, while the opening of classes will be on Aug. 10.

House committee wants draft of K to 12 fund by September

20 July 2013, 9:48 p.m.- FACULTY union officials of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Metro Manila signed a resolution in UST this afternoon asking President Benigno Aquino III to allow faculty representation in the drafting of the implementing rules of the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 or the K to 12 program.

In a forum at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex, UST Faculty Union (USTFU) Internal Vice President Rene Tadle said suggestions from the faculty must be considered to address specific issues concerning the implementation of the law.
