NOVALICHES Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani has called on the faithful to seek conversion and penance, as the Church marks the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparitions in Fatima.

“Ang ating mundo ay nalalambungan ng napakaitim na lambong—ng egoism, selfishness … ang Diyos ay hindi na Diyos, pinalitan na ng sarili, pinalitan na ng maraming idolo,” Bacani said in a Eucharistic celebration at Plaza Mayor on May 12.

“Nakikita ‘yan ng ating Ina. At ayaw niya na mapahamak tayo. Tayo ay ipinagkatiwala ng ating Panginoon sa Kanya,” he said.

Bacani, a professor at the Faculty of Sacred Theology, said people ought to help others who continue to sin, and pray the rosary and the Act of Consecration.

“Kung tayo po ay nagkamali at nakabangon, tumulong tayo sa pagbagon sa mga nagpapatuloy pa sa pagkakamali,” he said.

One hundred years ago, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three children in Fátima, Portugal and entrusted to them three “secrets” that called for the conversion of mankind.

Today, May 13, Pope Francis will canonize two of the visionaries, siblings Jacinta and Francisco Marto, during the centennial anniversary of the apparitions.
