A THOMASIAN priest is set to take the helm of the Diocese of Kabankalan in Negros Occidental.

Msgr. Louie Patalinghug Galbines was appointed by Pope Francis on Monday to succeed Bishop Patricio Buzon, who served the diocese for 13 years before he was transferred to the Diocese of Bacolod in 2016.

Prior to his appointment, the 51-year-old Galbines was the vicar general of the Diocese of Bacolod.

Born on Nov. 18, 1966 in Sagay, Negros Occidental, Galbines finished his theological and philosophical studies at the University of Santo Tomas in 1992 and was ordained a priest on April 29, 1994.

Galbines served as rector, assistant dean and spiritual director of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Bacolod and chancellor and secretary of the diocesan curia from 1994 to 1996.

In 2001, he obtained his licentiate and doctorate in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
