A female passenger suffered head and face injuries after the vehicle she was riding crashed into a hospital entrance early morning on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The driver was unharmed, while three other passengers had minor injuries from the crash that happened at about 2:30 a.m. at the entrance of the outpatient unit of the UST Hospital Clinical Division.
The driver’s behavior showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, said Emanuel Zamora, Sangguniang Kabataan chair of Barangay 470, who responded to the scene.
Zamora said the driver claimed to have swerved to avoid a jaywalker on the street.
However, surveillance footage showed there was no pedestrian crossing Dapitan Street minutes before the car rushed to the gate.
Barangay 470 Chairman Harry Nagal told the Varsitarian the male driver could get his license revoked if found guilty of drunk driving.
Nagal said the female passenger, who was sitting in the middle of the vehicle’s back seat, hit the windshield of the sports utility vehicle.
She was brought to the UST Hospital on foot by a delivery rider who witnessed the accident, while the University’s security personnel immediately secured the scene.
