TWO MUSIC faculty and researchers of the Research Center for Culture, Arts, and Humanities were elected to a music development and preservation body.
Prof. Maria Alexandra Chua and Prof. Renato Lucas of the Conservatory of Music were elected to posts in the National Committee on Music under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Chua, the Music dean, is the new head of the Executive Council of the National Committee on Music.
She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree, major in Piano, in UST. She earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
In 2022, she was one of the NCCA Sudi Music awardees, a national recognition for those who had “significantly shaped the Philippine music landscape.”
Lucas was elected to the Performance Sector (Instrumental) of the music executive council.
He is a former secretary general of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists.
Lucas obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman and his doctorate degree from UST. He also finished Music Studies at the San Francisco Conservatory in the United States.
They will serve in the council for the 2026 to 2027 term.
Editor’s Note: The story was revised to correct the faculty rank and academic training of Professor Lucas. Also, the music council posts are elected, not appointed positions.
