TWO Thomasian journalists were named by Tatler magazine on its 2025 Most Influential list.
Both are from Rappler: Lian Buan, a senior investigative reporter, and James Patrick Cruz, also an investigative journalist. Both are covering the massive flood control scandal.
Buan has been a journalist for over a decade, covering human rights and justice.
She has been with Rappler since 2017. She was an associate producer for GMA Network from 2010 to 2016.
Buan, who graduated from the UST journalism program in 2015, is the co-founder of UST’s digital media organization TomasinoWeb.
She obtained her Masters of Laws in Human Rights at the Birkbeck University of London as a scholar in July 2023.
Cruz is from the BA Journalism Class of 2022.
Cruz has been a multimedia reporter for Rappler since 2023, covering local governments, public finance and other general news assignments.
Before Rappler, he was a news writer for Philstar.com, covering politics, transportation and sports.
Cruz was also recognized for his articles on the 2022 elections, Covid-19 vaccine prison rollouts, and how basketball referees were affected during the pandemic.
