A FACULTY member and an alumnus of the UST Faculty of the Arts and Letters have been appointed to key government posts.
Dennis Santiago, a lawyer and faculty member of the Department of Legal Management, was named as deputy executive secretary for support services and auxiliaries of the Human Resource Merit Promotion and Selection Board under the Office of the President.
He has served as faculty member under the Department of Legal Management for more than two decades.
In 2024, Santiago was recognized as one of Artlets’ Outstanding Educators in the St. Thomas More Excellence Awards.
Santiago was the executive director of the Government Procurement Policy Board – Technical Support Office, an agency attached to the Department of Budget and Management, from 2011 to 2018.
His exposure to procurement work started in 2001, when he began serving as a consultant to various government agencies and non-governmental offices.
Renato “Aboy” Paraiso, a legal management alumnus from the class of 2000, was appointed as the new head of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) under the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
He took his oath of office on June 18, replacing Alexander Ramos who previously served as executive director with the rank of undersecretary.
Paraiso is a former DICT assistant secretary.
He completed his primary, secondary, and tertiary education at UST.
He started law school in UST and later attained his Bachelor of Laws at the Philippine Law School. He passed the Bar Examinations in 2007.
Paraiso later on co-founded his law firm together with Carlo Gracilla, known as the Gracilla and Praiso Law Offices, where he handled cases in commercial, corporate, and international laws.
CICC is responsible for cybersecurity functions, including addressing issues such as fake news, online gambling, and digital exploitation.
