THE UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe clinched second place finishes in the folk and contemporary dance categories of Sayaw Pinoy 2019, held at the Rizal Park Open Air Auditorium, Manila last Oct.19.

The group performed tinikling in the folk dance category, and the Pintados-inspired batuk in the contemporary category.

“Sobrang big factor [in winning] ‘yung mga transition sa dance. ‘Yung performance namin sa mismong competition, ‘yun po yung pinakamalinis na run namin,” Salinggawi President Maria Dominique Mantaring told the Varsitarian.

“We really [had] to believe the piece. Celebratory po kasi `yung piyesa namin so we [had] to enjoy,” Mantaring added.

This year’s competition had three categories: folk dance, contemporary and hip-hop.

Sayaw Pinoy is a national dance competition organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts to promote dance in its various forms.
