THE UST Alumni Lay and Priests Association Inc. (ALPA) donated P1 million to the UST Central Seminary on Monday, Aug. 11, to support the training of seminarians.
ALPA, the official association of alumni of the UST Central Seminary and Ecclesiastical Faculties, raised the funds from the group’s golf tournament.
“There’s joy and a greater amount of satisfaction in what we did. The seminary has been vital to who we are today. We have to repay that goodness,” Fr. Jerome Secillano, ALPA president, told the Varsitarian.
Secillano said the late Fr. Frederik Fermin, O.P., former rector of UST and the Central Seminary, inspired the initiative.
“During our time, Fr. Fermin would organize his friends to donate to the Central Seminary. The seminary didn’t have that anymore. Hence, we decided to continue helping the institution that molded us,” he said.
The donation will help in honing seminarians’ skills in line with their pastoral interests, the Manila cleric said.
The fundraising tournament was held on April 29, 2025, at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong.
Fr. Clarence Victor Marquez, O.P., acting rector of the Central Seminary, received the donation.
On Facebook, the UST Central Seminary expressed its gratitude to ALPA, saying the donation is not only a material endowment but also a reminder of the strong bonds between the seminary and its alumni community.
