AMID THE education crisis faced by the country, the UST College of Education is proof of the University’s commitment to quality education, UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang said during the closing Mass for the college’s centennial celebration on Friday, May 15.

In his homily at the Santísimo Rosario Parish Church, Ang said the crisis stems from the lack of quality education and teachers.

“Magandang maipalaganap ang kultura ng katiyakan ng kalidad. Maraming nagtatapos sa edukasyon sa ibang eskwelahan na hindi nakakapasa sa licensure examination. Maaaring kulang sa quality assurance at kailangan ng tulong ng mga centers of excellence tulad ng Eduk,” Ang said.

The rector said the college’s Center for Holistic and Inclusive Learning and Development Laboratory, a space for developmentally appropriate and holistic early childhood education, is a solution to children’s “stunting growth.”

The College of Education’s Research Initiatives for Teacher Education, a program for evidence-based research to improve teacher training, curricula, and policy, in partnership with the Teacher Education Council, ensures quality and excellence in the academe, Ang added.

“Ang kinabukasan ng edukasyon sa bansa ay nakasalalay sa pagkakaroon ng mga magagaling na guro,” he said.

The College of Education was founded in June 1926 to address the national teacher shortage and to become a school for Catholic educators.

“A new work by its nature not only involves the hard work of laying down the foundations, but it also entails the need for sustainability to make the work endure the test of time,” Ang said. Yuvshenka Andrea R. Osea
