THIS YEAR’S Paskuhan pyromusical show will center on the symbolism of light, color, and Christian hope, a theme that reflects UST’s call to become “prisms” of Christ’s light amid challenges.
In an interview with the Varsitarian, Facilities Management Office Director Fr. Dexter Austria, O.P. said that the nine-minute pyromusical show was inspired by the local fantasy drama “Encantadia” and Netflix hit show “KPop Demon Hunters.”
The shows, according to Austria, were selected because of their “colorful” motifs, emphasis on camaraderie, and relevance to this year’s Paskuhan overarching theme, “Light Among Us, Hope Through Us.”
“‘Yong theme kasi, they are full of colors. It’s a celebration of colors, celebration of light, and celebration of togetherness, celebration of camaraderie [and] celebration of belongingness to each other. Because without the others, they cannot form a group and they cannot fulfill their mission,” he told the Varsitarian.
“We are looking at the theme of having colors. Colors, meaning Christ is the one light. It’s the source of light. It’s like we are the prism of Christ. Christ is the true light and shines through this prism and spreads all the colors towards the people to benefit all people, he added.
Austria also noted that the campus decorations, which feature gem-like structures, crystal shards, and various polygons, reflected the Paskuhan theme as a “celebration of light” and symbolized the light that would guide people on “how to do things right.”
“Amid the darkness we are experiencing, we have these lights to guide us also. And this light is coming from Christ, and we are participating in that light to be the light of the world,” he said.
The pyromusical show will last for seven to nine minutes and will feature soundtracks from the two shows, Austria said.
The campus lighting ceremony on Nov. 28, which kicked off the Paskuhan festivities in the University, also featured songs from “Encantadia” like “Bagong Tadhana” and “Kpop Demon Hunters” such as “Golden” and “Soda Pop.”
“Encantadia” recently gained traction after its spinoff “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” premiered this year.
“KPop Demon Hunters” began streaming in June 2025 and became the most-watched original title in Netflix history.
A light show display will be integrated with the Agape community dinner on Dec. 17.
The grand Paskuhan concert will begin at 3 p.m. on Dec. 19, featuring Thomasian acts and guest artists.
