THE FACULTY of Engineering has secured reaccreditation for all six of its undergraduate programs from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), a global organization.
The chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering programs all made the cut during the accreditation board’s 2025 review.
ABET said all six programs offered “well-structured and comprehensive, three-semester, practicums, and research experiences.”
The reaccreditation of the six degree programs is valid until Sept. 30, 2032. ABET initially accredited the University’s engineering programs in 2020.
It opens opportunities for UST engineering graduates to pursue professional recognition, licensure, and certification programs overseas.
“Graduation from an ABET-accredited program is increasingly a required minimum qualification for such professional recognition,” ABET said on its website.
UST is among the few Philippine universities with ABET-accredited programs, alongside De La Salle University and the Technological Institute of the Philippines.
International institutions with ABET-accredited programs include Cornell University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Columbia University, all of which are considered to be among the top engineering schools.
Established in 1932, ABET began evaluating engineering programs in 1936 based on quality standards for education and professional preparation.
It is a global nonprofit that evaluates college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
All six engineering programs offered by UST also received accreditation from the Philippine Technological Council, the Philippine body that represents the country in the Washington Accord, an international agreement on engineering education, in 2015.
