THE UNIVERSITY is set to host the 12th edition of the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE) at the Quadricentennial Pavilion on July 24 to 26, with the pope’s envoy and three prelates headlining the talks.
Centered on promoting friendship in faith, this year’s conference will bear the theme “SANGKÁY: I have called you friends,” from the Gospel of John. Sangkáy is a Waray term meaning “friend.”
Organizers said the main conference seeks to highlight the significance of relationships and community amid polarization, strife and geopolitical tensions.
The first day of the conference will commence with the enthronement of the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag and a Mass to be presided by Cardinal Jose Advincula, the archbishop of Manila.
Bishop Rex Ramirez of the Diocese of Naval in Biliran will deliver the keynote address titled “The Call of Relational Conversion.”
Archbishop Charles John Brown, apostolic nuncio to the Philippines, will lead the concluding Mass on the second day, which will be preceded by a panel discussion, a plenary talk, and concurrent sessions.
On the third day, “PCNE All Youth” will convene young people, youth ministers, and catechists with the Eucharistic celebration to be presided by Balanga Bishop Rufino Sescon Jr., a member of the Priestly Fraternities of St. Dominic.
Over 29 episcopal sees will send representatives to the annual conference, which is expected to draw an estimated 5,000 delegates.
The PCNE was established by former Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle in 2013 in response to the Church’s call for a new evangelization, aimed at reinvigorating the faith. Yuvshenka Andrea R. Osea
