The UST Faculty Union (USTFU) will hold elections from April 28 to 29, with voting to be conducted onsite.
The USTFU Commission on Elections (Comelec) extended the polling period from one day to two days to give faculty members more time to vote.
The poll body had rejected proposals to implement a blended voting system, citing the absence of provisions for online voting in the union’s constitution and bylaws.
“As the sole body tasked to conduct the elections, Comelec must strictly follow what is written in these rules…we cannot introduce a new voting method that is not included in our CBL and worse, without a Board Resolution,” it said.
The Comelec noted that the union’s 2021 online elections were held only due to pandemic lockdowns and were backed by a formal board resolution.
“We understand the need to make voting more convenient and inclusive. To help address this, the Comelec will provide two voting days for the upcoming USTFU elections,” it said.
“This will give all members more time and flexibility to participate through the approved onsite/manual voting process,” it added.
Faculty groups had earlier pushed for a hybrid setup to expand voter participation.
The USTFU Comelec had initially scheduled the elections as a one-day, face-to-face exercise on April 28.
