THE UNIVERSITY will recognize 49 retiring members of the academic staff on July 17, led by former Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) dean Marilu Madrunio and several longtime faculty members.
Madrunio, also a former dean of the Graduate School, is retiring after 37 years of service.
An applied linguist known for her work in foreign and legal linguistics, Madrunio served as dean of the Graduate School beginning in 2013 before heading the Faculty of Arts and Letters from 2019 to 2022.
Other retirees include Assoc. Prof. Herminigildo Ranera of the Conservatory of Music, Senior Counselor Christine Quita of the Counseling and Career Center, Asst. Prof. Gerardo Castro of the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy, Asst. Prof. Maria Vicenta Sanchez of the College of Architecture, Asst. Prof. Ma. Elena Ramirez of the College of Nursing and Asst. Prof. Felix Silbor of the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics.
Also retiring from Artlets are Asst. Prof. Faye Abugan, Asst. Prof. Emelita Samala and Asst. Prof. Anna Ward, all longtime faculty members of the college.
The Faculty of Engineering’s retirees are Assoc. Prof. Peter Lim, Prof. Lola Pestaño and Asst. Prof. Vilma Santos, while the College of Fine Arts and Design will honor Asst. Prof. Stephen Buñi, Asst. Prof. Santiago Caaway III and Asst. Prof. Noli Vicedo.
Retiring from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery are Assoc. Prof. Ma. Cartrini Cruz, Assoc. Prof. Maria Cumagun, Asst. Prof. Ma. Clarissa Fortuna, Prof. Ramon Gonzalez, Assoc. Prof. Dennis Lusaya, Assoc. Prof. Vivienne Lusaya, Assoc. Prof. Alberto Paulino Jr., Asst. Prof. Juan Perez de Tagle, Asst. Prof. Antonio Rebosa, Prof. Estrellita Ruiz, Prof. Consuelo G. Suarez and Asst. Prof. Francis Villanueva.
Also retiring are Asst. Prof. Marife Narcida and Asst. Prof. Ma. Gina Sadang of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Asst. Prof. Vanessa Gonzalez, Asst. Prof. Denis Ngo and Assoc. Prof. Rosalynn Papa of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences; Prof. Rosario Garcia, Assoc. Prof. Florencia Ledesma and Loreto Juelar of the College of Science; and senior high school teachers Judy Aguinaldo and Marlene Navera.
The Miguel de Benavides Library will bid farewell to senior librarians Leonila Manuel and Juanita Subaldo.
The academic staff recognition will begin with a Eucharistic celebration at 9 a.m. at the Santisimo Rosario Parish Church, to be presided over by Fr. Isaias Tiongco, O.P.
The testimonial program will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom of the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building, the Office of the Secretary General said in a July 1 memorandum.
Earlier, the University will recognize nine retiring support staff members during the “Parangal at Pasasalamat” program on July 10.
The support staff retirees are Emelina Certeza (Office of the Vice Rector for Finance), Maria Ladisla (Office of the Registrar), Dionisio Layacan (College of Science), Perla Martin (Miguel de Benavides Library), Arsenio Medel (Faculty of Engineering), Jimmy Payot (OVRAA), Adolfo Silva and Claudio Subido (Facilities Management Office) and Glenn Vasquez (Faculty of Pharmacy).
