FORMER medicine dean Ma. Graciela Garayblas-Gonzaga was named as the 2026 Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) Distinguished Internist during its 56th Annual Congress on May 3.
Garayblas-Gonzaga, who served as dean from 2007 to 2013, was recognized by peers, subordinates, and patients for innovations in internal medicine and leadership in advancing ethical care in ambulatory settings.
She established the UST Hospital Institutional Review Board in 1995 and later served as its chair. She also headed the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Garayblas-Gonzaga served as president of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges Foundation (APMCF) and the Philippine Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, and as vice president of the International Association of Catholic Medical Schools.
She is the chair of the APMCF’s Committee on Internship Program.
Assoc. Prof. John Delgado was named the 2026 PCP Distinguished Teacher for his contributions to shaping the next generation of physicians through “academic leadership, clinical training, and compassionate teaching.”
Delgado teaches under the Department of Medicine and Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. He is also a consultant at UST Hospital.
The Department of Internal Medicine was also recognized for the full accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency Training Program for four years.
It was awarded for achieving a 100% passing rate among training institutions with fewer than four first-time exam takers at the 2026 Philippine Specialty Board of Internal Medicine.
Formed in 1952, the Philippine College of Physicians is the umbrella organization of internists in the Philippines. It is also an affiliate society of the Philippine Medical Association and a member society of the International Society of Internal Medicine.
