ENRICO Yambao, an assistant professor at the College of Science and former chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, died on Sept. 1. He was 64.
The college and the University announced his death on Facebook.
“A longtime educator, Asst. Prof. Yambao was a mentor to many– both students and academic staff alike,” the University said.
Yambao headed the department for a decade and was among faculty retirees recognized in 2025.
He took his undergraduate degree in civil engineering and his master’s degree in mathematics at the University.
During his tenure, he handled courses in advanced calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and probability theory.
Science Dean Rey Donne Papa said Yambao was a well-loved chair and faculty member.
“He always advised the newly appointed chairs and also offered a lot of help, guidance and advice to his colleagues in math,” he said.
“He was very easy to work with, and you can see in him his love and commitment to the college.”
Papa said that Yambao served as an “uncle and father figure” to his junior colleagues.
“He was someone who had made his mark and would be remembered by his colleagues and students whose lives he had touched,” Papa said.
The college held a “Lugaw for a Cause” fundraiser for his cancer treatment in December 2024.
His wake will be held at St. Peter Chapels in Sucat, Parañaque, starting Sept. 3.
