THE REGENT of the UST Faculty of Civil Law emphasized the value of “maintaining cleanliness from within” as Thomasian law graduates take the 2025 Bar examinations in September.

During the Mass for Thomasian Bar examinees, Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P. urged the law graduates to be cleansed and be a “clean person” as they aspire to become full-fledged lawyers.

“And when you become a lawyer, make sure that the Lord Jesus Christ has spoken to you, that [you] must be out of sin, must be a clean person, must be cleansed,” Abaño said in his homily.

Jesus, he said, taught that while people often strive to appear clean outside, it is also important to see what is within.

“What he (Jesus) was saying, when you perform this (religious actions), make sure that what is inside is truly holy,” he said.

The law regent also urged Bar examinees to be grateful to the Lord, and not take the Bar exams based on pure luck.

Magiging ganoon ang tingin niyo sa Bar exam, tsambahan. Kung makapasa, salamat. Kung hindi makapasa, pasensya. That should never be your attitude,” he said.

“Your attitude is that you will make it because deep in your heart, those days are the best part of your life, and you are offering it to God, who will surely bless you,” Abaño added.

When they pass, Thomasian lawyers must embody a “real attorney” who respects and practices the essence of law, he said.

The 2025 bar examinations will be held on Sept. 7, 10, and 14. UST is one of the 14 testing sites.
