The Varsitarian takes a look back on the events that transpired before and after Horacio “Atio” Castillo III’s hazing death in this timeline.
8:56 p.m. - Atio sends a text message to his mother Carmina, saying he is in UST and will stay overnight for the "welcome party" of Aegis Juris Fraternity.
1 a.m. - Aegis Juris members begin the first stage of the final initiation rites. Ten members punch Atio while seven others drink and sing to drown the sounds of hazing. Axel Hipe presides as the master initiator.
During the second stage of initiation, a spatula is used on Atio to reduce the swelling of his muscles.
On the third and final stage, Atio is supposed to receive 11 paddle hits from members, being a solo initiate. On the third hit, he is asked if he can still take hits, to which he responds in the affirmative. He collapses on the fourth paddle, muttering unintelligible responses.
5 a.m. - Atio is hit for the fifth. He collapses and loses consciousness. Members start to panic and attempt to resuscitate him, dropping candle waxes on his body to test his response.
6:20 a.m. - John Paul Solano, a medical technologist on leave from law studies in UST, gets a call from a fraternity member asking him to go to the fraternity library on Laon-Laan Street. Solano ignores the request.
7:10 or 7:15 a.m. - Solano gets another call and is told that a neophyte collapsed during initiation rites.
Before 8 a.m. - Solano leaves his home in Caloocan.
Around 9 a.m. - Solano arrives at the fraternity library and performs CPR on Atio. He tells frat leaders the "half-dead" Atio needs to be brought to the hospital. Frat leaders decide to bring Atio to Chinese General Hospital instead of UST Hospital, which is closer.
9:21 a.m. - Atio is declared dead on arrival at Chinese General Hospital. His body is brought to Archangel Funeral Homes in Sampaloc.
12 noon - Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina, an Aegis Juris alumnus, is informed by Civil Law Faculty Secretary Arthur Capili, also an Aegis alumnus, that a student died following the fraternity's hazing rites.
12:15 p.m. - Divina asks Capili to confirm if a neophyte indeed died during the Aegis Juris Fraternity hazing rites.
6 p.m. - Death of a freshman surnamed "Castillo" is confirmed, as recalled by Divina during a Senate inquiry. He is unable to inform the family because he does not have the full name of the victim, and office records are inaccessible on Sundays.
10 p.m. - Atio's parents go to UST Hospital but fail to find their son.
1 a.m. - Atio's parents receive a text message from an anonymous sender that their son is at "CGH." They find their son's body at Archangel Funeral Homes. News breaks out of a hazing death involving a UST law freshman.
9:40 a.m. - Divina confirms death of Atio to the Varsitarian.

1:00 p.m. - UST condemns hazing and vows to bring Atio's killers to justice.

1:40 p.m. - Divina announces preventive suspension of all Aegis Juris members, and bars them from entering UST.

6 p.m. - Civil Law Student Council leads a prayer vigil and candle-lighting ceremony at the Quadricentennial Park.

Around 1 p.m. - Solano is named a “person of interest” in the case because of inconsistencies in his statements to the police.
1:00 p.m. - The Department of Justice (DOJ) announces an immigration lookout bulletin order against members of Aegis Juris Fraternity, including Solano.
5:00 p.m. - Divina announces the partial lifting of the suspension of the fraternity members, to make them available for interview by the police.

10:00 a.m. - The Bureau of Immigration says Ralph Trangia, a member of the Aegis Juris and a suspect to the death of Atio, left the country and flew to Chicago via Taipei on Sept. 19.
Before 3:00 p.m. - Solano surrenders to Sen. Panfilo Lacson and apologizes for giving false statements on the death of Atio.
10:00 a.m. - Solano is brought to the inquest at the DOJ. Manila police file criminal charges against 19 suspects in fatal hazing, including Trangia's parents.
6 p.m. - The Senate conducts its first hearing on Atio's death, led by Lacson, chairman of the Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee.
Solano discloses the names of at least six individuals involved in the Aegis Juris Fraternity hazing rites in an executive session.

The 22-year-old Atio is laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park at Parañaque.
Prosecutors end inquest proceedings and order the release of Solano for further investigation, as he was not subjected to a warrantless arrest and thus could not be inquested. Prosecutors instead schedule a preliminary investigation on Oct. 4 and 9.

Manila police search the Aegis Juris library for evidence after getting a warrant. Later that day, Solano is released from detention.
UST Faculty of Arts and Letters students wear black shirts to mourn the death of Atio.
Manila Police District reveals that the CCTVs inside the Aegis Juris Fraternity Library were tampered.
Kapunan urges authorities to investigate UST officials including Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina for possible irregularities that led Atio’s death.
President Rodrigo Duterte meets Atio’s parents at the Malacañan Palace for a meeting and assures them that there will be no whitewash in the case.
Duterte orders then Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to stop the ongoing NBI investigation on Atio's death and leave it to the MPD, upon the request of Atio's parents.
DOJ starts the preliminary hearing on the hazing case.
Three members of the Aegis Juris Fraternity who allegedly carried Atio's body near the fraternity library are identified by a witness.
Aguirre announces that the United States Homeland Security is ready to deport Ralph Trangia on the request of the Philippine government.
Aguirre announces the return of Trangia.
Atio’s parents file supplemental affidavit to include Divina among those they want prosecuted, and name other Aegis Juris members and trustees of Aegis Juris Foundation, Inc.
Divina files libel complaint against Kapunan for allegedly linking him to Atio’s death as well as corruption allegations involving then national Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista.
Trangia returns to the Philippines via Eva Air Flight 271 with his mother Rosemarie.
DOJ offers a place for Trangia and his family under the Witness Protection Program.
Blood samples and body fluid from a paddle and a white shirt found at the Aegis Juris Library matches the DNA of Atio's parents.

The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs issues subpoenas for suspects behind the hazing death of Atio.

In a Senate press briefing, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero condemns the UST administration’s "apparent apathy and indifference" on the fatal hazing of Atio.
