A JOURNALISM alumnus is set to be awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by King Charles III for his contributions to education in the United Kingdom.

Edison David, an executive head teacher in two “outstanding-rated” primary schools in the London Borough of Lambeth, entered the King’s “2025 New Year Honours List.”

Ang MBE ay hindi lang para sa akin—ito po ay para sa lahat ng mga gurong Pilipino na buong puso at sipag ang pagbibigay-serbisyo, saan mang panig ng mundo,” he said in his Facebook post.

David serves as a school improvement adviser and a lead inspector for England’s national education body, Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted), and has led underperforming schools to achieve its “Outstanding Ofsted ratings.”

David is thought to be the first Filipino awarded an MBE for services in the field of education.

He finished his undergraduate studies in journalism at the University in 1992. He was a public school teacher in Tarlac City before migrating to the United Kingdom in 2000.

As an educator, David has advised government ministers on key reforms to the national education policy in the United Kingdom through the Department for Education’s Headteacher Reference Group and Data Management Group.

The recognition is the third-highest ranking in the Order of the British Empire, given to professionals, celebrities, and athletes for their achievements and service to the community.

The MBE is followed by the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

The award will be formally conferred by King Charles III or another member of the Royal family at Buckingham Palace in England.
