TWO journalism seniors and a medical biology senior will lead the 99th publication year of the Varsitarian, the official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas.
The publication will be headed by editor in chief Amanda Luella Rivera, a journalism senior who previously served as social media editor and News writer.
Journalism senior and former Filipino editor Frenchshield Shayne Delovieres will serve as managing editor, while Billy Andrei Ramos, a medical biology senior from the College of Science and former Features editor, will be associate editor.
Journalism senior Carlo Jose Ruga will continue as News editor. He will be joined by management accounting student Amador Denzel Teston as assistant News editor.
Journalism senior Luis Angelo Palma was named Special Reports editor, while Justin Jacob Urag of the Graduate School was appointed acting Features editor.
Psychology senior Marielle Pesa will remain as Science and Technology editor, while journalism juniors Lilah Mikaela Paredes and Yuvshenka Andrea Osea were named Sports editor and Witness coordinator, respectively.
Political science senior Kirsten Therese Barrameda was appointed Circle editor, while journalism senior Ashley Valkyrie Bueno will serve as acting Literary editor.
Architecture student Aidan Raphael Caluyo will continue as Art editor, joined by advertising arts student Mhyzell Dayne Oblepias as assistant Art editor.
Journalism senior Djenhard Yreneo Raphael Sapanhila will serve as Photo editor, while architecture student Jed William Gocatek will continue as Layout editor.
The News section will be composed of marketing management junior Czeantal Naomi Delos Santos, medical biology senior Louisse Raye Shara Santos, journalism senior Alexandra Demaisip, communication student Paolo Emmanuel Blanco, journalism sophomore Tatyana Sabeerah Maranan, and journalism juniors Jed Ampongan and Yuahn Zachary Guilas.
The Sports section will retain sports science senior Kurt Russel Vincent Miranda and communication senior Clyde Leanne Salamatin as writers. They will be joined by journalism juniors Charles Martin Manalang and Allanee Raye Valeriano, and communication sophomore Jay-Z Perez.
The Special Reports section will be composed of journalism juniors Ashley Madeleine Lampa and Mikaela Angela Villacorta, and journalism senior Nyl Dadiz.
The Witness section will consist of communication sophomore Bruce Buenaventura, journalism senior Alexandra Gabrielle Mansineros and legal management junior Enzo Miguel Mejia.
The Features section will include chemistry senior Elihoenai Hazael Cortez, journalism junior Alejandro Mari Eusebio and journalism sophomore Phoebe Elaine Pua.
Journalism sophomore Dan Cedric Latasa and legal management junior James Maverick Talavera will write for the Filipino section, while Bernadette Alpas (journalism), Marigela Isabel Cirio (psychology) and Regis Avalo Jophiel Lim (nutrition and dietetics) will serve as Science and Technology writers.
The Circle section will consist of legal management students Lianne Therese Espiritu and Inah Denise Manansala, and journalism junior Rhamiel Mae Vicente, while the Literary section will include Elizabeth Joy Castro (behavioral science), Psalmuel Reyes (creative writing) and Prince Cassel Trono (English language studies).
The Art section will be composed of Kathryn Grace Enriquez (food technology), Allana Elaine Libunao (journalism), Rich Harry Marbella (medical technology), Arlene Turla (architecture) and Natasha Aizhen Zaño (advertising arts).
Ethan Joshua Nikholai Guisama (information technology) and Vio Neiro Villaescusa (architecture) will remain in the Photography section. They will be joined by advertising arts seniors Danielle Atienza and Rogina Cassandra Baltazar, Nadine Felismino (Civil Law), Jerick Marc Laurence Grimaldo (chemical engineering), journalism sophomore Mickaela Jamylle Sison, and journalism juniors Divina Eloisa Meguines and Joachim Nigel Tanglao.
Journalism junior Joshua Emmanuel Camacho will serve as the publication’s editorial assistant.
The 63 staff members took specialized examinations and panel interviews, where their skills were assessed by the Selection Committee chaired by lawyer Teodoro Lorenzo Fernandez, chair of the UST Department of Legal Management and a former Varsitarian managing editor.
The committee also included Assoc. Prof. Ralph Galan, the new director of the UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies; Prof. Rosalyn Mirasol of the UST Department of English; PressOne.PH multimedia editor Niceforo Vince Balbedina III; and The Philippine Star reporter and former Varsitarian managing editor Eduelle Jan Macababbad.
Asst. Prof. Joselito Zulueta, the new chair of the UST Department of Journalism, will continue as publications adviser.
He will be joined by assistant publications adviser Felipe Salvosa II, president of the Journalism Studies Association of the Philippines, former journalism chair, and editor of PressOne.PH. Yuahn Zachary B. Guilas
