Nov. 26, 11:41 p.m. – A STRING of errors spoiled the Lady Spikers’ opening game in the UAAP as they fell to the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 16-25, 23-25, 18-25, at the Arena in San Juan this afternoon.
Maruja Banaticla scored 12 points for the Lady Spikers, while former UST high school standout Alyssa Valdez led Ateneo with 13 markers.
“Hindi nasunod ang game play namin. Maraming let down at marami talagang errors,” new headcoach Odjie Mamon said.
Both teams went toe-to-toe in a fiery third set where they registered 10 deadlocks. Judy Caballejo’s through-the-block hit leveled the score at 15-all, but consecutive errors rattled by UST later allowed Ateneo to pull away with a three point-lead, 15-18.
Team captain Maika Ortiz tried to spark a UST rally, but Ateneo was remained sharp to pull off the victory.
